Meet Analis – Leukemia Warrior!
“All of the love and help we get from our friends, family… and amazing organizations like the NCCS make it a lot easier to handle and cope with,” – Analis’ mom.
Five year-old Analis suffered from exhaustion, a loss of appetite, and foot, stomach and leg pain. Analis’ mother, Cecilia, took her daughter to the hospital on four separate occasions to find out why her daughter was in such constant pain. After a blood test, doctors believed that Analis was simply anemic and sent them on their way. But, one day later doctors called Cecilia to say the results were misread and that Analis needed to return to the hospital immediately. After running a battery of tests, doctors determined why this little girl was in so much pain and delivered the devastating news. Analis had leukemia. “From there, it feels like you’re living a nightmare and you can’t wake up,” said Cecilia.
That meant going to the hospital multiple times per week, which was three hours roundtrip. The travel expenses quickly added up and Cecilia knew she needed financial help getting her daughter to and from treatment. She reached out to the NCCS who provided mileage assistance so that Analis could make it to every appointment. “All of the love and help we get from our friends, family… and amazing organizations like the NCCS make it a lot easier to handle and cope with,” Cecilia said. Thankfully, she is nearing the end of her treatment plan and Cecilia says her daughter is returning to her lovable, funny and playful self.
