Meet Alicia – Leukemia Warrior
Throughout her fight against cancer, sweet baby Alicia has shown great strength and bravery.
Throughout her fight against cancer, sweet baby Alicia has shown great strength and bravery. She was only six months old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after doctors found that her white blood cell count was shockingly high. Immediately, doctors knew Alicia was very sick since the average white blood count for a child her age is between 5,000 and 10,000 and hers was 800,000. Alicia’s parents, Trinity and Antonio, were completely devastated after hearing that their baby girl had a level so incredibly high. Alicia began treatment immediately and after only one day, her white blood cell count plummeted to 214,000, astonishing every single one of her doctors. She reached a normal level of 6,000 by the end of her third day of treatment. Infants who are treated for leukemia must continue with their appointments and hospital visits, even beyond remission – which meant that Alicia would remain in treatment until she is three years old.
While her family tried to keep their daily routine as normal as possible, they couldn’t ignore the fact that their bank accounts were suffering and reached out to the NCCS. Not only did the organization offer emotional support during this difficult time, they were also able to help Alicia’s family with mileage and other unanticipated expenses. “Thank you so much for the assistance…” shared Trinity and Antonio.
